RE*Generation Canada

Youth represent one of the fastest growing sub-populations of the homeless in Canada. The vast majority of homeless youth have not completed high school which limits opportunities to secure training and employment, accessible, affordable and suitable housing.

Many experience physical, sexual and/or emotional abuse, violence and substance abuse, mental illness and family instability. Homeless youth are more likely to get sick and die on the streets, and often perceive violence as a means of resolving conflict, threatening harm to themselves and others, leading to involvement with the justice system. The longer youth remain homeless, the worse their chances for a better future become.

Virgin Unite, in partnership with Virgin Mobile, their members, and friends, is on a mission to make a difference.

Over the last few years, we've partnered with some incredible people to raise money, develop programs and lend a hand to thousands of youth across the country to get them back on their feet and into a better, brighter future.

Here are some of the things we've been up to...

The RE*Gen concert series

RE*Generation concert series

Lady GaGa and The Veronicas perform at RE*Generation benefits in Toronto.

We've partnered with Virgin Mobile to develop the RE*Generation concert series - a music movement for real change. We work with artists who want to lend their voice to the cause and help us generate awareness, raise cash and have a good time doing it!

Artists like Lady GaGa, the Veronicas and Canadian rock sensation The Trews have all joined the RE*Generation by visiting one of our charitable partners, talking to the young people and performing a benefit concert, with proceeds supporting the program.

To date, the RE*Generation concert series has raised over $50 000 for programs and initaitves that support vulnerable young people in Canada.

National Youth Homelessness Awareness Day

In partnership with Virgin Mobile, we're on a mission to make November 17th ‘National Youth Homelessness Awareness Day’ in Canada to show the government that this epidemic needs lasting solutions and not temporary band-aids. You can add your voice and help make change for young people who need it most. Sign up for our petition and help young people get off the street and on the path to a brighter future.

The Mentorship Project

Virgin Unite has teamed up with industry leader Eva’s Initiatives to work on the Mentorship Project – a program for homeless and at-risk youth in Toronto which creates mentorship relationships and projects within the community that will foster relationships, marketable skills, and the opportunity to develop an idea and see it through to a successful conclusion. Virgin Unite is looking for partners across the city who’d like to commit their time and experience to help create projects for at-risk youth in their community. Interested?
