Meet the students

Here’s what some of the young South Africans who’ve taken part have to say about the programme:

Akiko Ngolomi

Akiko Ngolomi - Age 20
“I really want to change the way my peers think and do things – we have to have action in our heads and hearts. We must want to improve and learn more. Through perseverance we can make it through no matter how tough it is.

I would love every one of us – my peers – to give the program more. We cannot just depend on you, but we have to give it our best and concentrate.”

Philile Gumbi

Philile Gumbi - Age 19
“The Women on the Move programme has prepared me socially, given me compassionate love and the ability to understand people before judging them.

I love seeing people being successful because of the help I offer them. Women on the Move has created light in the other people’s lives . It also develops me as a person and makes me have the love and passion for what I am doing and feel I can make a difference.”

Nosipho Mdingi

Nosipho Mdingi - Age 21
“I have changed. At first I was very shy in front of big groups. Now I see life differently – we were taught about emotional intelligence – and I now feel more informed about the choices I make.

I think this is a great programme for students. You spend time with people you never thought you would and learn so much from them. Things you thought you knew are challenged.”

Dimakatso Mokoena

Dimakatso Mokoena - Age 21
“I am a person who likes to know different things. I am now receiving different tools on how to go out into the world and solve problems, as well as how to think about the people involved, making sure it doesn’t influence them in a bad way.”
